The Challenge

Creating an integrated HR environment and better employee experiences

Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited has been doubling its revenue every four years. To continue to meet customer demand while delivering the excellent products and services it is renowned for, it needed to recruit more staff across its sales, manufacturing, and supply chain functions. It wanted to improve experiences not only for new hires but also for its existing employees and contractors –while ensuring its HR team had time to focus on delivering valuable strategic projects.

 

The company was dependent on manual and disconnected processes to support a variety of HR functions. For instance, employee data, which was not integrated with the company’s finance and manufacturing systems, had to be manually updated by the HR team to keep information current. Plus, there was a lack of visibility and consistency around performance reviews and goal setting for office-based employees, as Berger used an in-house solution.

 

The recruitment of new hires was done through paper resumes and e-mails, which was time consuming, labor intensive, and could lead to compliance issues. And when new recruits joined the company, the experience wasn’t always streamlined and efficient due to manual onboarding processes.

The Solution

Building an innovative HR platform to enable business and people success

To kick off its HR transformation, Berger Paints implemented the SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central solution. Soon after, the company realized that the SAP SuccessFactors Performance & Goals solution would be a perfect way to automate its performance review process. With the subsequent move to SAP S/4HANA to support its finance and manufacturing operations, Berger Paints was able to easily integrate SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central to provide a single source of employee data. Realizing the benefits of having an integrated set of HR solutions, the company decided to explore other SAP SuccessFactors solutions to further support its HR transformation.

 

“We wanted to improve the recruiting and onboarding experiences for new hires, so it made sense to also adopt the SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting and SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding solutions,” explains Mushfequr Rahman, head of HR at Berger Paints. “SAP SuccessFactors solutions are critical to helping our business reach its full potential. Having people data stored in a single and secure environment is saving us time and money, as well as helping ensure we meet compliance requirements.”

Since implementing SAP SuccessFactors solutions, Berger Paints is seeing significant benefits for employees across all parts of the organization – from the factory floor to office-based staff and salespeople on the road. Employees can now easily access and update their own HR data from anywhere, on any device using the SAP SuccessFactors Mobile app. This has saved the HR team significant time as they no longer need to manually update personnel data for 1,800 employees. And the company has a single source of truth.

 

Managers and office-based employees are empowered with powerful performance planning and talent management tools. For instance, with SAP SuccessFactors Performance & Goals, objectives can be set, cascaded if required, and then monitored on a continuous basis. “Goal setting and objectives monitoring were manual processes before. We now have sophisticated tools that help us capture employees’ achievements and support them in reaching their full potential,” says Rahman.

 

Recruitment of new hires is now streamlined and includes integration between SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting and LinkedIn. This frees up time for the HR team to focus on more projects that add value to the business, such as employee engagement and skills development programs and community engagement activities.

 

New employees now have a more positive experience from the time they’re offered a position through to their first days at the company, thanks to SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding.

 

The integration between SAP SuccessFactors solutions and SAP S/4HANA means data can be more easily synced, which enhances data security. Improved visibility into comprehensive people data is enabling real-time analytics and reporting that is improving planning, collaboration, and decision-making. Berger Paints has also seen improvements in its finance and manufacturing processes with SAP S/4HANA.
