When Gainwell was spun out of DXC Technology’s state and local health and human services business, its emergence as a new company came with the challenge of creating intellectual property for its business processes. This called for the design and delivery of enablement content from scratch to train and support people in functional roles across the integrated business processes and value chain.

Aligning business process training and duty segregation

With a business foundation built on SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition and using a portfolio of SAP tools for finance, procurement, HR, and customer experience, Gainwell looked to SAP for a solution. The company was impressed with the functionality offered by SAP Enable Now – particularly, the platform’s collaborative content authoring, management, and knowledge-sharing capabilities.

 

To meet the need for a repository that would house business process intellectual property and new training material, Gainwell built four new applications in SAP Enable Now encompassing procurement, finance, order-to-bill, and delivery processes. Within these applications, the company established directories around different roles. Functional aspects of the business were documented in SAP Enable Now, with detailed procedures on how to perform each task. Given the highly sensitive nature of this information, strict safeguards for the segregation of duties were put in place, upholding stringent measures around the custody of customer data in compliance with regulations protecting publicly identifiable information.

 

As new positions are created in the company, they are mapped to functional roles within SAP Enable Now, and training modules are mapped to those roles. Employees are then assigned into the appropriate role with the relevant training.

Aggregating business knowledge around four business applications

By creating a single repository of business processes and the training required to fulfill them in SAP Enable Now, Gainwell provides its people with the knowledge they need to succeed. To date, the company has developed approximately 400 distinct pieces of training content within four separate applications, directly supporting company-wide value chains from start to finish. This allows its employees to confidently deliver optimal technology services and solutions to its clients, benefiting more than 60 million Medicaid members across the nation.

 

On a practical level, SAP Enable Now allows Gainwell to train and educate its employees while maintaining compliance with strict healthcare regulations around safeguarding personally identifiable information and protected health information. Having established a training directory in SAP Enable Now, Gainwell has a granular level of detail by business unit and functional roles. Using the solution, the company can identify and archive inactive training, allowing it to pull historical training records when required for audits and compliance checks.

 

There’s also enhanced efficiency to serve ongoing training needs, update training assets, and give users business process support when they need it. Additionally, Gainwell has access to the SAP Companion service, providing an interface between content from SAP Enable Now and other solutions while simplifying onboarding, training, and upskilling application users.
